About Us

The WMCWARP is a service provided by West Midlands Council. It is part of an initiative by the UK Centre for the Protection of National Infrastrucutre (CPNI), to develop Information Sharing. The WMCWARP is the first WARP to be launched in the West Midlands and is for the local government sector. It is fully operational from November 2006.

The WARP initiative is a means of improving security by stimulating better communication of alerts and warnings, improving awareness and education, and encouraging incident reporting. Sharing information will reduce the risk of information systems being compromised and therefore reduce the risk to organisations.

The WMCWARP is supported by CPNI (previously known as NISCC)-CPNI was set up in 1999 and is an inter-departmental centre drawing on contributions from across government. The role of CPNI is to minimise the risk to the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) from electronic attack. Please see the CPNI site for more information about CPNI.
